Obverse description Left-facing effigy of Marianne wearing a winged Phrygian cap, engraved in low relief by L. Bazor. A fleet of sailing ships appears in the background field, evoking maritime themes of the French Union. The legend 'REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE UNION FRANÇAISE' arcs around the periphery, with the engraver's signature 'L. BAZOR' and mint mark 'GB' appearing in the field. The date is inscribed below the exergue line, followed by the privy mark of the Monnaie de Paris.
