| 正面描述 | The crowned coat of arms of Luxembourg, depicting a lion rampant on a field of ten horizontal barrettes, occupies the central field. The armorial shield is surmounted by a heraldic crown. The legend GRAND-DUCHÉ DE LUXEMBOURG encircles the design, contained between two concentric beaded borders. A die difference appears between the two grenetis. |

The 1889 Luxembourg essai coinage was produced in anticipation of a new circulation series under Grand Duke Adolphe, who had only acceded to the throne that same year following the extinction of the Nassau-Weilburg male line and a succession dispute that briefly made Luxembourg's dynastic future uncertain. Essais of this type were struck for official approval purposes and never entered circulation. The multiple catalog references — Lindman, KM, and Wictor — reflect genuine attribution disagreements among specialists, with Wictor distinguishing at least two die varieties at E8 and E9.
