The references converge on the third century BC, a period when Rome's expanding confederation pressed allied and semi-independent towns to produce their own bronze currency, often imitating Roman aes grave modules while retaining local identity markers that remain frustratingly ambiguous to modern attributors. Haeberlin's 1910 corpus, still foundational for aes grave scholarship, placed related material at p.173 without resolving the mint question.
