Obverse description Tripod depicted in high relief at center, with three slender legs terminating in lion's paw feet resting on a ground line, and three upward-curving handles flanking the bowl at the top. The composition is rendered in a severe archaic style characteristic of early South Italian coinage, filling the field symmetrically. A beaded border encircles the design. The ethnic legend ϘΡΟ (an abbreviation for Kroton) appears to the left of the tripod in archaic Greek characters.
