Azes II remains a contested figure — some scholars, most notably Nicholas Sims-Williams following his work on the Rabatak inscription, have argued that Azes II never existed at all and that coins attributed to him are simply later issues of Azes I. The debate has not been resolved, and attribution continues to split specialist opinion along lines that carry real chronological consequences for anchoring the so-called Azes Era, itself the subject of ongoing dispute regarding whether it begins around 58 or 47 BC.
Mitchiner's AC#2413 places this among the smaller silver fractions of the series, struck at regional mints whose exact locations remain unidentified.
