背面描述 A bee depicted facing upward with wings fully outstretched, occupying the central field in a naturalistic yet stylized rendering typical of Thessalian civic bronzes. The ethnic legend of Melitaia is divided into four Greek letters arranged around the bee: Μ and Ε above to the left and right respectively, and Λ and Ι below to the left and right. The composition is well-centered within the irregular flan, with no border ornament visible.

附加信息

Melitaia was a small Thessalian polis in the Enipeus valley, a member of the Thessalian League whose coinage output was modest enough that even well-documented series remain sparsely represented in major collections. The BCD Thessaly II corpus — assembled by the collector known only as BCD whose Thessalian holdings were dispersed at auction by Nomos in 2011 — remains the primary reference precisely because institutional coverage is so thin.

Rogers #396 places this type within a tight chronological bracket that coincides with Thessaly's turbulent relationship with the Macedonian expansion under Philip II.
