| 背面描述 | Domitian standing left in priestly attire, performing a sacrifice over a flaming altar; to the left, flute and lyre players attend the ceremony in profile. A temple facade is depicted in the background, referencing the Secular Games (Ludi Saeculares) of AD 88. The scene commemorates Domitian's celebration of the Ludi Saeculares, a once-in-a-generation Roman religious festival. The legend is divided between the upper field and the exergue, with the senatorial authority mark S C prominently flanking the central design. |

The legend COS XIIII LVD SAEC FEC — "in his fourteenth consulship, he celebrated the Secular Games" — places this as squarely as any coin can be placed. Domitian revived the Ludi Saeculares in 88 AD, a three-day ritual of sacrifice and performance theoretically held once per century, though the intervals had been manipulated repeatedly. His version was the first since Augustus, and he used the occasion aggressively as dynastic propaganda, positioning himself as inaugurator of a new age rather than mere inheritor of one.
