The legend COS XIIII LVD SAEC FEC — "in his fourteenth consulship, he celebrated the Secular Games" — places this as squarely as any coin can be placed. Domitian revived the Ludi Saeculares in 88 AD, a three-day ritual of sacrifice and performance theoretically held once per century, though the intervals had been manipulated repeatedly. His version was the first since Augustus, and he used the occasion aggressively as dynastic propaganda, positioning himself as inaugurator of a new age rather than mere inheritor of one.
