Pozo-Estrecho is a small village in the municipality of Cartagena, Murcia — the kind of place that would never appear in a numismatic catalog under ordinary circumstances. What puts it here is the Spanish Civil War. The Republican zone suffered an acute shortage of small change from 1936 onward, and hundreds of local businesses, municipalities, and cooperatives filled the gap by issuing their own emergency fractional notes. This piece, authorized by the local commerce and industry association, is one of those hyperlocal solutions.
Gari Montllor's catalog of Spanish Civil War local issues documents thousands of such emissions, and the B suffix on this reference suggests at least one variant exists for the type.
