The BCEAO has issued novelty bullion pieces under the CFA franc denomination since the mid-2010s, licensing pop-culture and historical curiosity themes — UFOs, famous mysteries, conspiracy touchstones — for collector markets in Europe and North America. These have no meaningful circulation history in West Africa and are produced entirely for export sale. The Roswell incident itself, the 1947 crash near Roswell, New Mexico, generated its mythology largely through a 1978 book by Stanton Friedman rather than any contemporaneous public hysteria.
The irregular shaped flan is the primary technical point of interest here.
