The .500 fineness is a deliberate economic choice, not a metallurgical one: it halved the gold content relative to a fine-gold equivalent while keeping the coin accessible at lower spot prices.
The Triton series drew on Barbados's specific maritime mythology rather than generic Caribbean imagery, distinguishing it from the flood of similar collector issues produced by regional neighbors in the same period.
