Obverse description The national coat of arms of Barbados occupies the central field, featuring a quartered shield bearing a fig tree and two pride-of-Barbados flowers, supported on the dexter by a dolphin and on the sinister by a pelican. Above the shield rests a beehive helmet with a hand grasping two crossed sugar cane stalks as the crest. A scroll beneath the shield bears the national motto PRIDE AND INDUSTRY in two sections. The date 1984 is divided across the field to either side of the arms, each numeral flanked by a trident symbol, while the legend BARBADOS curves prominently along the lower periphery. The inscription 500/1000 FINE GOLD appears in small lettering below the motto scroll, and the entire design is enclosed within a beaded border.
