| 正面描述 | The papal coat of arms of Pope Pius XI occupies the central field, depicted as a heraldic shield bearing a displayed eagle above three roundels, surmounted by the papal tiara and flanked by the crossed keys of Saint Peter. Two ornate cartouche-like scroll devices appear at lower left and right. The date is divided across the lower portion of the shield, with '19' to the left and '31' to the right. The circular legend PIVS XI P·M·AN·X runs along the periphery, identifying the pontiff and the regnal year of his pontificate. |

These coins were struck in the earliest years of Vatican City's existence as a sovereign state — a status created almost overnight by the Lateran Treaty of February 1929, which ended six decades of bitter standoff between the Holy See and the Italian government. Pius XI had negotiated relentlessly for that settlement, and the new coinage was among the most immediate expressions of the restored temporal authority it granted.
The series ran through 1937, with individual annual issues struck in very limited quantities intended largely for collectors rather than everyday commerce.
