Ratchis ruled the Lombard kingdom twice, but his second reign lasted barely a year — he returned from monastic retirement at Montecassino in 756 when his brother Aistulf died, only to abdicate again almost immediately under Frankish pressure. Tremisses attributable to this second reign occupy an exceptionally narrow chronological window, which explains both their rarity and the persistent uncertainty around the monogram on the reverse, still unresolved in the literature despite Arslan's attempt at attribution.
