| 表面の説明 | Diademed and draped bust of King Plato facing right, the diadem rendered with characteristic fillets falling behind the neck. The portrait is executed in a vigorous Hellenistic style, with curling hair emerging beneath the diadem and a finely modelled profile presenting strong facial features. The bust is truncated at the shoulder, showing a draped garment rendered with bold, deeply cut folds. The border consists of a fillet or bead-and-reel ornament encircling the field. |

Plato's reign in Baktria is poorly documented in ancient sources, and his precise relationship to the ruling Eukratid dynasty remains contested. He likely seized power during the dynastic fragmentation that followed the assassination of Eukratides I around 145 BC — a period when regional governors and ambitious commanders were staking claims across the collapsing Baktrian kingdom. His coinage is rare enough that it was long treated as a usurper issue, though modern scholarship generally accepts him as a legitimate, if short-lived, king. The SNG ANS 9 specimen catalogued at #628 remains one of the key reference pieces for establishing die linkages within his limited output.
