| Description du revers | Dionysos depicted standing to the left in a relaxed contrapposto stance, holding a bunch of grapes extended in his raised right hand, with a thyrsos or vine-staff in his left. Two monograms appear in the lower field, one to the left and one to the right of the deity's feet, serving as magistrate or mint-control marks. The ethnic legend ΔΙΟΝΥΣΟΥ ΣΩΤΗΡΟΣ ΜΑΡΩΝΙΤΩΝ encircles the design, identifying the coin as issued in honor of Dionysos Soter by the Maronites. The composition reflects the characteristic Hellenistic civic coinage of Thrace. |
