| Obverse description | Youthful head of Dionysos facing right, crowned with an elaborate ivy and grape-cluster wreath, with locks of wavy hair falling to the neck. The modeling is of fine Hellenistic style, with softly rendered facial features and a serene, idealized expression. The wreath is richly detailed, displaying individual berries and ivy leaves in high relief. The field is smooth and unlettered, with the portrait positioned centrally on the flan. |

| Reverse description | Dionysos depicted standing to the left in a relaxed contrapposto stance, holding a bunch of grapes extended in his raised right hand, with a thyrsos or vine-staff in his left. Two monograms appear in the lower field, one to the left and one to the right of the deity's feet, serving as magistrate or mint-control marks. The ethnic legend ΔΙΟΝΥΣΟΥ ΣΩΤΗΡΟΣ ΜΑΡΩΝΙΤΩΝ encircles the design, identifying the coin as issued in honor of Dionysos Soter by the Maronites. The composition reflects the characteristic Hellenistic civic coinage of Thrace. |
