Stater with lyre

The Bodiocasses were a small Gaulish people settled in the region of modern Normandy, roughly around present-day Bayeux. Their coinage output was limited, and the lyre type falls within a broader northwestern Gaulish tradition of adapting Greek and Macedonian prototypes through successive generations of stylistic abstraction — by this stage so thoroughly transformed that the original Hellenistic source is barely traceable. The DT#2284 reference places this piece within the Scheers-Delestrée typology as a distinctly local product, not a regional imitation.

Billon staters from small Gaulish tribes in this period frequently show irregular flans, a consequence of rudimentary casting preparation rather than die failure.
