The design represents an advanced stage of Celtic coin degeneration from earlier Macedonian prototypes, retaining only vestigial figural elements. No legend or inscription is present. |

The Boii of western Slovakia were under sustained pressure from Dacian expansion throughout the first century BC — Burebista's campaigns in the 60s BC effectively shattered Boiian tribal confederacy and drove surviving populations westward. Coins of this type were likely struck and buried during precisely that period of displacement, which explains why hoards rather than single finds dominate the archaeological record for this series.
Kostial's corpus documents the type with reference qualifications, suggesting die linkage across the known specimens remains incompletely established.
