The design is executed in a bold, abstract Celtic artistic tradition, with the raised relief elements distributed asymmetrically across the flan. | Beschrijving keerzijde | Concave flan with a deeply impressed, stylized 'sea-shell' or Muscheln pattern formed by a series of curved, parallel ridges radiating from a central point, creating a distinctive shell-like appearance. Within the concave field, traces of an extremely debased and abstracted bearded male head oriented to left may be discerned, the facial features reduced to rudimentary elements including an H-shaped schematic nose area. The design represents an advanced stage of Celtic coin degeneration from earlier Macedonian prototypes, retaining only vestigial figural elements. No legend or inscription is present. |

The Boii of western Slovakia were under sustained pressure from Dacian expansion throughout the first century BC — Burebista's campaigns in the 60s BC effectively shattered Boiian tribal confederacy and drove surviving populations westward. Coins of this type were likely struck and buried during precisely that period of displacement, which explains why hoards rather than single finds dominate the archaeological record for this series.
