| Beschrijving voorzijde | Laureate head of Tiberius facing right, rendered in low relief with broad facial features characteristic of provincial Roman coinage. The laurel wreath is rendered with individual leaves encircling the imperial effigy. A partial Latin legend is distributed around the periphery of the flan within a beaded border. The style reflects the local Paestan workshop tradition rather than the refined output of the central Roman mint. |

Paestum, the old Greek colony of Poseidonia refounded as a Latin colony in 273 BC, retained the right to strike local bronze coinage well into the imperial period — a privilege that diminished steadily under Augustus and was largely extinguished by the mid-first century AD. This semis falls within the reign of Tiberius, issued under the local magistrates L. Caecilius Clemens and Flavius, whose names the obverse legend preserves. Provincial civic issues of this type from Paestum are thinly documented, and the I#612 reference places it among a small, poorly understood group.
