Obverse description Facing right, a diademed and draped bust of Queen Cynethryth rendered in a stylised Anglo-Saxon manner, with hatched hair detail and prominent facial features characteristic of late 8th-century Mercian coinage. Three pellets appear in the upper left field, with the moneyer's name EOBA arranged in runic-influenced angular letters to the right of the bust. The portrait is enclosed within a beaded border. The overall style reflects the portrait penny tradition associated with the Canterbury mint under Offa's monetary reforms.
