| Beschrijving voorzijde | Flat, irregularly shaped flan bearing a retrograde or divided Latin inscription arranged across the field in multiple lines, reading EL/DEBER/TI R, a corrupt rendering of the royal name and title of Childebert I. The lettering is crudely executed in the Merovingian barbarous style, with letters of varying size and alignment, characteristic of early Frankish municipal coinage. No portrait or figurative element is present; the inscription occupies the entirety of the coin's obverse field. The fabric is rough and the strike off-center, typical of sixth-century hammered silver coinage from the Marseille mint. |
