| 背面描述 | A cross with notched or indented arms, each quarter filled with a symmetrical foliate or leaf motif, creating an ornate floriate cross design. The bold relief of the foliage fills the quarters generously, lending the reverse a decorative, almost heraldic character consistent with hammered coinage of the Principality of Orange. The surrounding peripheral legend invokes a devotional inscription in Latin. |

Frédéric Henry inherited the Principality of Orange from his brother Maurice in 1625 and held it until his death in 1647, but his actual control over the enclave — a tiny sovereign territory surrounded entirely by French soil in the Vaucluse — was perpetually contested. The M on this liard has generated bibliographic disagreement: most authorities now read it as a mint mark rather than a monetary denomination indicator, though the point was disputed well into the twentieth century among scholars of féodales coinage.
