Engelmar of Villanders served as imperial vicar of Padua under Ludwig IV of Bavaria during the brief window between Cangrande della Scala's death grip on regional politics and the consolidation of Carrara power. This grosso was struck during a period when Padua cycled through multiple overlords in under a decade, and coinage authority shifted accordingly. Engelmar's issues are among the rarest municipal-vicariate grossi of the Veneto, surviving in small numbers precisely because his tenure was short and his monetary output correspondingly limited.
