The Adriatic Veneti occupied the northeastern corner of the Italian peninsula and maintained a distinct cultural identity well into the Roman period, minting their own silver coinage even as Roman influence tightened around them. Their drachms drew heavily on the Greek colonial tradition filtering up from the Adriatic coast — a borrowing that reflects active trade relationships rather than mere imitation. The reference CCCBM 1#II-S71 places this piece within a closely studied die sequence, though absolute chronology within the 200–175 BC window remains debated among specialists.
