Henry II was the last ruler of the Ottonian dynasty, and his reign saw the imperial mints operating under a decentralized system that granted ecclesiastical and secular lords broad coining rights. Esslingen, situated on the Neckar, functioned as an active royal mint under Henry — one of several Swabian sites producing deniers during this period.
