Obverse description Central field bearing a plain cross with a globule at each extremity, the whole enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend in Latin characters reads DS CONSERVA ROMANO IMP (Lord, protect our Roman Emperor), introduced by a cross pattée. The die work is characteristic of early Carolingian-influenced Venetian coinage, with rough, irregular flan typical of hammered production.
