The architectural rendering is extremely abstract, consistent with the primitive die-cutting conventions of Saxon bracteate-influenced pfennig coinage of the late Ottonian period. No legible inscription is present, and the design fills the irregularly struck flan to its edges. |

Issued under the Billunger dukes during a period when Saxony functioned as the eastern bulwark of the Ottonian empire against Slavic incursion, these deniers circulated through a region still being absorbed into the Latin monetary system. The Billunger mint output from this window is poorly documented, and attribution between specific duke and exact mint remains contested among specialists — Dannenberg's numbering has been revised more than once.
