| 背面描述 | Within a beaded inner circle, a bold rampant lion to the left, rendered in vigorous hammered relief, grasping by a ribbon a heraldic shield bearing the arms of Nijmegen. The lion's mane, musculature, and claws are rendered with characteristic late-sixteenth-century Low Countries die-cutting style. A Dutch-language legend in the outer margin records the coin's denomination and fineness, reading NA ⋆ KO ⋆ PHS ⋆ PENNIN ⋆ G ⋆ GEHAL ⋆ DAL ⋆ V ⋆ XXX STV, indicating a value of 30 stuivers. |

Nijmegen occupied an awkward political position in the early 1560s — nominally under Habsburg authority yet increasingly assertive in municipal coinage rights as the Dutch provinces chafed under Philip II's fiscal and religious policies. This daalder was struck during that charged interval before the outbreak of open revolt, when several cities pushed the boundaries of their minting privileges. The Dutch-legend variety distinguishes it from the Latin-legend issues struck concurrently, a choice that likely reflects deliberate municipal assertion rather than administrative accident.
