Atop the helmet rises a crest comprising the small municipal arms of Zwolle and a figure of Saint Michael brandishing a sword. The date appears in the exergue below the shield. The surrounding legend is separated from the design by a beaded border, with the inscription rendered in Latin capital letters. The overall composition is characteristic of late-sixteenth-century Dutch civic coinage in the Burgundian-Hapsburg tradition. |
