| Description de l’avers | Central field bears the arms of Zwolle on a curved heraldic shield, divided by a beaded inner circle, surmounted by an ornate tournament helmet. Atop the helmet rises a crest comprising the small municipal arms of Zwolle and a figure of Saint Michael brandishing a sword. The date appears in the exergue below the shield. The surrounding legend is separated from the design by a beaded border, with the inscription rendered in Latin capital letters. The overall composition is characteristic of late-sixteenth-century Dutch civic coinage in the Burgundian-Hapsburg tradition. |

The bold, graphic treatment of the eagle is consistent with the heraldic conventions of the late sixteenth-century Holy Roman Empire. |
