Above the horse, the tribal inscription YLLYCCI is disposed across the upper field in retrograde or irregular Latin lettering, the characters formed with pronounced lenticular terminals and pellet ornaments. A dotted border of annulets encircles the entire design along the periphery. Additional abstract symbols, possibly representing a wheel or solar motif, appear to the right of the inscription. The overall style is consistent with the coinage of the Senones tribe of northeastern Gaul. |
