| 表面の説明 | Severely stylised and disintegrated head of Apollo facing right, rendered in a highly abstracted late Celtic manner. The wreath, a vestigial attribute of the Apollo prototype, is suggested by a loose arrangement of pellets, a single spike, and crescent devices distributed across the field. All detail is extremely crude, reflecting the advanced degeneration of the original Gallo-Belgic prototype through successive copying. The flan is irregular and the overall execution is characteristic of the cast bronze coinage of the Durotriges. |

The Durotriges occupied the territory of modern Dorset and parts of Somerset and Wiltshire, and their coinage tells a story of deliberate isolation. While neighboring tribes adopted increasingly refined coin designs through contact with Gaulish traders and Roman merchants, the Durotriges moved in the opposite direction — their bronzes grew progressively more abstract and debased over time, a trajectory that appears to reflect both geographic insularity and the disruption of Atlantic trade routes after Caesar's Gallic campaigns curtailed cross-Channel commerce through ports like Hengistbury Head.
