The archaic spelling 'LEIBERTAS' is a deliberate affectation of Republican orthography, invoking the ideal of freedom that underpinned the Liberators' cause. The legend LENTVLVS is inscribed in the lower field and SPINT below, abbreviating the name of Publius Cornelius Lentulus Spinther, the moneyer responsible for the issue.
