| Obverse description | Left-facing crowned effigy of King George V, rendered in high relief after the design of Sir Bertram Mackennal, whose engraver's initials 'B.M.' appear in relief on the truncation of the bust. The surrounding circular legend reads GEORGIVS V DEI GRA: REX ET IND: IMP:, designating the sovereign's titles in Latin as King by the Grace of God and Emperor of India. The portrait is executed in a classical academic style characteristic of MacKennal's Royal Mint commissions of the early twentieth century. |
