| Obverse description | Toughra of Mahmud II displayed prominently in the central field, accompanied by a floral ornament at right and an eight-pointed star at left. The entire central device is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, itself surrounded by a continuous floral and foliate decorative border. The overall composition is characteristic of Ottoman provincial hammered coinage, with the toughra rendered in bold Arabic calligraphy. The irregular flan and characteristic strike are typical of early nineteenth-century Tripolitan mint production. |
