| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central square hole flanked by four large Chinese characters arranged in cruciform fashion within a plain raised rim. Reading clockwise from top, the reign title legend 咸豐元寶 (Xianfeng Yuanbao, meaning 'Xianfeng Primordial Treasure') is cast in bold, regular-script (kaishu) characters of even weight, exhibiting the characteristic flat-relief casting style of the Beijing Board of Works mint. The characters are well-spaced within the broad field, with 咸 at top, 寶 at bottom, 元 to the right and 豐 to the left of the central perforation. The outer rim is plain and slightly raised, forming a neat border around the coin's face. |
