| 背面描述 | The large numeral '50' dominates the central field as the denomination indicator. A circular legend reading NOTGELD 1920 arcs across the upper portion of the field, while PFENNIG curves along the lower portion, the two separated by ornamental cross pattee stops with intervening dots. The entire design is enclosed within a continuous inner pearl border, with a plain raised rim beyond. |

Wattenscheid issued this iron notgeld piece in 1920 as the postwar metal shortage and monetary chaos left municipalities across the Ruhr scrambling to fill the gap left by hoarded or melted coinage. Iron was a practical if unglamorous substitute — abundant in an industrial district built around coal and steel, but prone to rust, which explains why uncorroded survivors are harder to locate than the mintage figures alone would suggest.
