Oppurg is a village in the Orla valley, historically overshadowed by the Schloss Oppurg estate. Like hundreds of Thuringian municipalities in 1921, it issued Notgeld not from any genuine monetary emergency but because the local scrip had become a minor collectible commodity — towns printed attractive small notes knowing philatelists would buy and hold them, effectively turning the emission into a revenue exercise. Pössneck's Tageblattdruckerei handled a considerable volume of this regional notgeld work, serving multiple nearby parishes in quick succession.

The two signatories — Henniger as Gemeinde-Vorstand and Eichtsmeyer as council chairman — represent the full formal weight of a village administration that probably numbered fewer than a dozen officials.
