| Opmerkingen |
Sandl is a small market town in Upper Austria's Mühlviertel region, and this 50 Heller notgeld was issued by the municipal government in 1920 as part of the broader Austrian emergency currency wave that followed the collapse of the Habsburg economy. The Kunstdruckerei Carl Jensen in Vienna handled the printing — a firm that took on considerable notgeld work during this period, producing runs for dozens of small municipalities that lacked any meaningful access to banking infrastructure.
Rudolf Mader's involvement as designer is worth noting: local notgeld often attracted regional illustrators and graphic artists, and the Mühlviertel series in particular drew on folk imagery and local craft traditions that made these small municipal issues more visually distinctive than their urban counterparts.
