Описание аверса	The Latvian state coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield: the upper half features a rising sun with radiating rays, while the lower quarters display a lion passant to the left and a griffin passant to the right. Three five-pointed stars are arranged in an arc above the shield, representing the three historical regions of Latvia. Two decorative ribbon scrolls flank the shield on either side. The legend LATVIJA appears on a curved banner below the shield, with the mint name HUGUENIN inscribed in small letters at the base of the design.

These bronze santimi were among the earliest coins struck for the newly independent republic, with production divided across the two-year span as the fledgling central bank established its supply requirements. The blanks and striking were contracted to foreign mints — Latvia had no domestic minting capacity of its own in this period.
