Obverse description The Latvian state coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield: the upper half features a rising sun with radiating rays, while the lower quarters display a lion passant to the left and a griffin passant to the right. Three five-pointed stars are arranged in an arc above the shield, representing the three historical regions of Latvia. Two decorative ribbon scrolls flank the shield on either side. The legend LATVIJA appears on a curved banner below the shield, with the mint name HUGUENIN inscribed in small letters at the base of the design.
