| Descrizione del rovescio | The reverse, printed in green intaglio by Thomas De La Rue & Co. Ltd., carries an elaborate guilloche framework with Chinese characters '伍圓' and '伍' in the four corner cartouches, flanking a central circular vignette of a classical female bust wearing a plumed helmet, encircled by the legend 'BANCO NACIONAL ULTRAMARINO'. The denomination 'CINCO PATACAS' appears in a panel to the left, with numeral '5' counters at right and lower left. A blue overprint stamp reading 'TIMOR' is applied above a black bar that obliterates the original 'MACAU' text at the lower centre, and the printer's imprint 'THOMAS DE LA RUE & COY. LTD. Pick 6 is a Macau 5 Patacas base note — almost certainly from the 1920s series — overstamped for use in Portuguese Timor, with "PAGAVEIS EM TIMOR" applied to redirect an existing stock rather than commission a new printing. Banco Nacional Ultramarino routinely managed currency across multiple Portuguese territories this way, adapting metropolitan or Macau-printed supplies to serve Timor when dedicated issues were either unavailable or impractical to procure.
The overstamp practice makes accurate dating complicated. The 1933 date reflects the stamping year, not necessarily when the underlying note was produced by De La Rue in London.
