正面描述 Central field dominated by the elaborate calligraphic tughra of Sultan Mahmud II, rendered in the traditional Ottoman imperial monogram style with sweeping upward strokes (tuğ) rising from an oval loop (beyze) and interlaced horizontal arms (zülfe). The tughra occupies the majority of the flan and serves as the primary design element, executed in raised relief against a plain field. The surrounding legend, in Arabic script, reads the sultan's epithets and titles encircling the device. The overall composition is characteristic of early nineteenth-century Ottoman provincial coinage, with the tughra slightly smaller in the KM#168.1 variety.

附加信息

Cairo's mint was reactivated under Mehmed Ali's administrative overhaul of Egypt, and these copper paras were among the first issues produced there after decades of near-dormancy. The distinction between KM#168.1 and 168.2 reflects die variations in the toughra rather than any change in monetary policy — small differences in the script's execution that the Cairo engravers introduced without central authorization from Istanbul.
