Shaanxi (Shensi) Province never operated a modern steam-powered mint of its own, which makes this pattern's existence something of an administrative curiosity. It was almost certainly struck elsewhere — most likely at a central facility — as a proposal that never advanced to circulation. Kann attributed the piece cautiously, and the KM pattern designation reflects genuine uncertainty about whether provincial authorization extended beyond the specimen stage.
Only a handful of confirmed examples are recorded.
