The Blue Train — officially the Shosholoza Meyl Blue Train — has operated between Pretoria and Cape Town since 1946, though its origins trace to a luxury service run by the old Cape Government Railways in the 1890s. Liberia's involvement is purely commercial: the Central Bank issued dozens of transport-themed commemoratives in the 2000s and 2010s, most struck by foreign mints under licensing arrangements with virtually no connection to the subject matter.
KM#1015 is part of a sprawling series. Collector demand is driven almost entirely by the train's subject rather than the issuing authority.
