Obverse description The obverse is printed in a dark border with red and black rules framing the entire note, with validity and redemption conditions running vertically along both lateral margins in Gothic script. The issuer name 'Residenzflecken Neuhaus i.W.' is set in bold Fraktur lettering across the upper portion, below which the denomination 'Drei Mark' appears in large ornate script. A central vignette presents a coloured panoramic townscape flanked on either side by large numeral '3' tablets on dark grounds; below the vignette a red banner bears the inscription 'BISCHÖFL. RESIDENZ 1247 BIS 1802', with the municipal seal in red at lower left and the date 'Neuhaus i. Westfalen, den 1. Nov. 1921' along the bottom margin.

Reverse description The reverse is set on a dark blue-grey ground with a decorative ruled border. Three portrait busts of historical Bishops of Paderborn are arranged across the upper field: Ferdinand at left with his heraldic shield below, Franz Egon at centre within a framed vignette of Schloss Neuhaus, and Dietrich at right with his corresponding coat of arms below. A broad red banner across the lower portion carries a two-line German verse in bold black letterpress.
