La Sentiu de Sió is a small municipality in the comarca of La Noguera, Lleida, and like hundreds of Catalan and Aragonese villages during the Civil War, its ayuntamiento issued fractional emergency notes when Republican-zone coin shortages became acute after 1936. The Consell de la Generalitat had authorized local bodies to fill the gap, producing a chaotic proliferation of small-denomination paper — Turró catalogs over 3,000 distinct local issues from this period.
Imprenta Unió Obrera in Balaguer, a collectivized print shop operating under worker control, handled production for several nearby municipalities. The shared printer is often the only way to establish attribution for notes from villages that kept no surviving administrative records of the issue.
