Obverse description At center, the crowned Portuguese royal arms — a shield bearing five escutcheons in cross formation, each charged with five bezants, surrounded by a bordure of castles — surmounted by a narrow royal crown with prominent orbs and fleurs-de-lis. The denomination '2000' appears to the left of the shield in the field, flanked by three small fleurs-de-lis ornaments. A continuous circular legend in Latin surrounds the central device, reading clockwise from upper right. The overall design is bold and deeply struck in the characteristic milled style of the late 17th-century Brazilian colonial mints.
